Maynard Navasie

Maynard Navasie was born at First Mesa in 1945. He was the son of Joy Navasie (2nd Frogwoman) and grandson of Paqua Naha (1st Frogwoman).

Maynard learned to make pottery from his mother. His wife, Veronica, learned to make pottery from her mother, Laura Preston. Both were active potters by about 1960, then they got married. He was Tewa of the Kachina and Parrot Clans. She was Hopi of the Walpi Sun Clan. In their collaboration Veronica would form the pots while Maynard would sand, polish and paint them.

Maynard and Veronica signed their pieces with a frog and their initials: M.N. & V.N. Maynard passed on in 2003.
