Mata Ortiz

Carmela "Carmen" Ledezma de Veloz is a potter from the villaghe of Mata Ortiz. She learned to pot from Gloria Losoya de Veloz, then she developed her own unique white-body seedpots that she paints in red and black, using the white body as her third color. She also makes miscellaneous pot styles with white clay and leaves them undecorated.

Carmen and her husband, Jesus Veloz, travel the United States doing demonstrations of the Mata Ortiz techniques for creating and decorating pottery.
