Eduardo Ortiz

Mata Ortiz

Eduardo Chevo Ortiz Estrada was a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz. Working with his wife, Hortencia Dominguez de Ortiz, he produced mostly graphite blackware, although they also produced a lot of polychrome early in their careers. Chevo formed the jars and painted the basic designs while Hortencia polished, sanded and filled in the decoration lines. When they were ready, Eduardo would ground fire them the ancient way.
