Olivia Dominguez

Mata Ortiz

Born in 1971, Olivia Dominguez Renteria is a second-generation potter from Mata Ortiz. She first began working with clay and producing pottery when she was eight years old. Since then she has become well-known for her intricately carved effigy pots that often feature owls, snakes and lizards.

Olivia is married to potter Cruz Renteria.

  • 2012: First place in the National Tonallan Jalisco Concurso in the Contemporary category

  • 2014: Second place in the National Tonallan Jalisco Concurso in the Ceramic Sculpture category
  • 2014: Second place in The Tree of Life national contest in Metepec, State of Mexico, Contemporary category
  • 2015: Second place in the Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortíz, in the Sgraffito category
  • 2016: Award of Excellence in the Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortíz, in the Sgraffito category
  • 2017: Award of Excellence in the Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortíz, in the Sgraffito category
  • 2018: First place in the Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz, in the Clay Sculpture category
