Vickie Martinez (Koe-Sawe, meaning: Buffalo Steps) was born into Santa Clara Pueblo in 1967. She learned the fine art of making pottery the traditional way from her mother, Barbara Martinez, and her grandmother, Flora Naranjo and has been producing pottery on her own since 1983. In the late 1980's she worked a bit with Teresita Naranjo and Stella Chavarria to take her pottery making to another level.
Vickie specializes in traditional carved redware and blackware jars, bowls and wedding vases. She signs her work: Vickie Martinez, Santa Clara Pueblo.
