Rosita de Herrera

San Juan Pueblo/Ohkay Owingeh

Born in 1940, Rosita de Herrera learned to make pottery from her mother, Tomasita Reyes Montoya. Tomasita was one of the original eight potters who restarted pottery production at San Juan Pueblo. Tomasita also taught Rosita's sister, Dominguita Sisneros.

Rosita began to produce pottery for the marketplace around 1970, in what was the new San Juan tradition. She was very good at it and earned quite a few ribbons over the years. Being a modern day potter at San Juan, of course she was a regular participant in the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show.

Rosita usually signed her pieces "Rosita de Herrera San Juan Pue."
