Richard Ebelacker

Santa Clara Pueblo

Richard Ebelacker (1946-2010) was a grandson of Margaret Tafoya and son of Virginia Ebelacker. He grew up watching and working the clay with them. They taught him how to make large jars, the kind almost no one makes any more.

Richard didn't really begin making pottery until after his return from Vietnam in 1968. He became a master of traditional carved and polished redware and blackware, earning the Best of Classification award at the 1992 Santa Fe Indian Market.
