Vangie Suina

Mary Evangeline "Vangie" Suina was born into Cochiti Pueblo in 1959. She learned the ancient ways of making pottery from her mother, Louise Suina, and was selling her own pottery by the time she was 22. Today she specializes in creating storytellers, turtles and drums.

Usually when a Puebloan potter creates pottery, they make the piece, dry it, paint it, then fire it. Vangie likes to make her pieces and fire them before painting the decorations. She also likes to make storytellers with up to 100 tiny children on them.
