Desideria Montoya

San Ildefonso Pueblo

Desideria Montoya (1889-1982) was a potter from San Ildefonso Pueblo. She was a younger sister of the significantly more famous Maria Martinez.

She may have been overshadowed by her sister but Desideria was recognized as a significant and outstanding potter at the time of the 1909 demonstration of pottery making at the Museum of New Mexico. She was invited to be there with her sisters Maria and Anna plus Ramona Gonzales and Tonita Roybal.
