Michael Kanteena

Laguna Pueblo

Michael Kanteena earned a BA in Fine Arts at Eastern New Mexico University in 1981. Then he returned to Laguna and turned his attention to making traditional pottery. Shortly after that he decided he would prefer to make full replicas based on some of the potsherds he found while walking around at Laguna and on some of the full pieces he's seen displayed in museums. Many of his pieces are indistinguishable from similar pieces made several hundred years ago.
