Mariela Tena

Mata Ortiz

Mariela Tena is a potter from the Mata Ortiz area of Chihuahua in northern Mexico. Her parents are Gerardo Tena and Norma Hernandez de Tena, well-known makers of polychrome figurative pottery. Mariela, with her sister Melissa and brother Gerardo Tena Jr., learned how to make pottery as they were growing up, through watching and helping their parents.
