Hattie Carl

Hopi

Hattie Carl (1866-1960) was a First Mesa Hopi potter who was active from about 1900 to 1951. A contemporary of Nampeyo of Hano, she was one of the first in 1925 to develop a hallmark for signing her pieces: a flower rising out of a rain cloud. She made pottery until she was about 85 years old.
