Leah Nampeyo

Hopi

The daughter of Fannie Nampeyo and Thomas Polacca Sr., Leah Nampeyo was born into her illustrious family in 1928. Among her siblings were Iris Youvella Nampeyo, Elva Nampeyo, Thomas Pollaca Jr. and Tonita Hamilton. They all learned to make Hopi pottery the traditional way from their mother and grandmother, Nampeyo of Hano. Leah, in turn, taught her children: Melda, Rayvin and James.

Leah passed on in 1974.
