Dean Haungooah is a potter from Santa Clara Pueblo, son of potters Martha Suazo and Art Cody Haungooah (1943-1985). He follows in his father's footsteps and makes his father's style of tightly incised pottery.
Dean specializes in contemporary sgraffito designs on small black jars and seedpots, often with sienna spots and rims. Most of his designs are based on Mimbres and Ancestral Puebloan animals and insects.
A few years ago he married into the Navajo Nation and moved to his wife's home there. I've only seen him a couple times since. He was still making his trademark pottery.
