Santa Clara Pueblo

"I am a seventh generation native potter from Santa Clara Pueblo. My family creates pottery the same way my ancestors did over a thousand years ago. These traditional deep carved, stone burnished pieces are not made with a wheel nor are they fired in a temp. controlled kiln. We hand coil our pots, using experience to obtain symmetry and we fire outside in a bonfire. Its called vacuum induction firing by the scientific community. All clay is dug from a vein that runs throughout the Jemez Mts. These pieces are not glazed, but rubbed to a mirror finish with a stone." - Photo and quote taken from Ryan's page on .
